Leading with Purpose: A Reflection from Our Founder

When I founded Waterfront Academy, I imagined a school that would do more than educate. I dreamed of a place where children could grow in faith, think independently, and speak fluently in more than one language—a place where families would feel part of a living, breathing community.

In a recent video conversation, I had the chance to share that vision out loud. I spoke about Montessori leadership, bilingual education, and what it means to guide a school that is rooted in tradition yet responsive to the future.

Leadership, Montessori Style

Leadership, in a Montessori setting, is never about being in control of every detail. It is about preparing the environment—physically, emotionally, and spiritually—so that children and teachers alike can flourish.

When I walk into our classrooms, I see it happening every day: children moving confidently between lessons, teachers offering guidance without overshadowing, and students discovering that their work has meaning. This is the Montessori way, and it shapes the way I lead as well.

The Power of Two Languages

In the video, I also spoke about the gift of bilingual education. As the daughter of a Spanish-speaking mother and an English-speaking father, I grew up understanding the importance of language in identity and belonging.

At Waterfront Academy, we give children the chance to live in two languages. That means they don’t just learn Spanish—they use it to build friendships, solve problems, and express themselves. Watching a child switch seamlessly between English and Spanish reminds me why this mission matters. Language is more than words; it is connection.

Building a Community of Faith and Care

Another theme I shared was the role of school leadership in shaping culture. At Waterfront Academy, administration is not just about operations—it’s about cultivating a community where teachers feel supported, parents feel welcomed, and students feel known and loved.

We hold regular conversations with families, offer professional growth for teachers, and make space for children to be heard. This is not accidental—it is the heart of what it means to be a Catholic Montessori school.

Looking Forward Together

Sharing these reflections on leadership and bilingual Montessori education reminded me of how far we’ve come—and how much more there is to do.

  • We will continue to invest in dual-language immersion so every child graduates confident in two languages.

  • We will strengthen our support for teachers, so they can give their best to every student.

  • And we will remain rooted in our Catholic values, ensuring that faith and love guide our community.

A Final Word

Leadership at Waterfront Academy is not about one person—it is about all of us: students, parents, teachers, and community partners. Together, we are writing a story of education that honors tradition while embracing the future.

I invite you to watch the video here and join me in reflecting on what it means to lead with purpose.
