COMMUNITY

The people of our community are integral to making Waterfront Academy special. Waterfront Academy Knights include students, parents, teachers, staff, and supporters. When we get together as a community - it is amazing! There are several key events that occur each year:

Celebrations

Christmas Pageant (December) - The students practice and perform the Nativity for families. This is a time-honored tradition that we love keeping alive.

Easter Egg Hunt (March or April) - Easter eggs, Easter bunny, bonnets and baskets - He is Risen! Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Is there a better reason to celebrate?

Parent Involvement

Monthly Parent Workshops - These events present useful information on Montessori philosophy, provide opportunities to observe student work, or share parenting ideas and techniques. Presented by faculty members at Waterfront Academy or outside experts, the goal of each presentation is to provide parents with information to become an even-more informed and effective parent for their children.

Parents for Kids Association (monthly meetings and fellowship events) - The purpose of the Parents for Kids is to nurture a cohesive, positive school community at Waterfront Academy, to support the teachers and classrooms, and to assist the school in providing added educational opportunities for the students and their families. This organization strives to enrich the school with ideas and extra support, which is provided through fundraising and fellowship.

Partners in Growth

Back to School Night (September) - Parents get an opportunity to see the classrooms and meet the teachers in a fun and relaxed way.

Parent-Teacher Conferences (October and February) - In addition to the weekly emails from teachers and the daily conversations from pick-up/drop-off, parents get dedicated time to ask questions and learn how children are doing in the classroom.

Moving Up Ceremony (May or June) - Celebrating students moving from one classroom to the next - or ultimately graduating and moving on to High School - is something that we love to do as a community.

Building the Future Together: Support Waterfront Academy

At Waterfront Academy, our mission is simple yet profound: to nurture children from preschool through 8th grade in a dual-language (Spanish and English) Montessori program rooted in the Catholic tradition. As a micro-school, we provide individualized attention, rigorous academics, and a community that supports the spiritual and intellectual growth of every child.

This past year has been one of transition and resilience. We relocated from the Southwest Waterfront to Capitol Hill, while continuing to deliver the high standards families expect. Along the way, we offered free parent workshops on Montessori, Dual Immersion, and Reading Support—recorded and shared so more families could benefit.

Like many schools, we face financial challenges. Our move required more resources than planned, while rising costs and family relocations affected revenue. Despite this, our commitment to exceptional, faith-based education has not wavered.

You can help us move forward. Your gift will:

  • Strengthen our dual-language, Catholic Montessori program

  • Support teachers and staff

  • Provide classroom resources and enrichment opportunities

  • Ensure stability for our Capitol Hill campus

Every contribution—large or small—makes a real difference. Donate online at Paypal or by check payable to Waterfront Academy.

On behalf of our faculty, families, and students, thank you for your support. Together, we can continue shaping children who are academically prepared and grounded in faith, compassion, and service.
