Job Title: Teaching Assistant
Location: 924 Pennsylvania Ave. Washington, D.C.
Job Type: Full-Time/Part-Time (depending on the number of subjects taught)
Reports To: Principal and Assistant Director
Salary: $44k per school year (August 16 to June 15). Commensurate with experience.

Position Overview:
Waterfront Academy, a Spanish immersion Montessori school rooted in the Catholic tradition, seeks a dedicated and compassionate Teaching Assistant to support our lead teachers. The ideal candidate will work closely with the lead teacher to create a safe and nurturing learning environment, assist in classroom management, and provide individualized support to students.
Key Responsibilities:

Support the Lead Teacher:

Assist the lead teacher in daily classroom activities and instructional tasks.

Help in preparing and organizing learning materials and resources.

Maintain a Safe and Healthy Learning Environment:

Ensure that the classroom environment is safe, clean, and conducive to learning.

Monitor students to ensure they follow safety guidelines and procedures.

Assist in Classroom Management:

Support the lead teacher in managing student behavior and maintaining a positive classroom atmosphere.

Help in implementing classroom routines and procedures effectively.

Support Individual Student Needs:

Provide one-on-one or small group assistance to students as needed.

Help students with their academic and personal development by providing encouragement and support.

Assist in observing and documenting student progress and behavior.

Qualifications:
-
High school diploma or equivalent; some college coursework in education or a related field is preferred.

Experience working with children in an educational setting is a plus.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Ability to work collaboratively with the lead teacher and other staff members.

Patience, empathy, and a genuine interest in supporting children’s learning and development.
Working Conditions:

The position involves working in a classroom setting with primary or elementary-aged children.

The role may require outdoor activities, field trips, and other hands-on learning experiences.

Teachers may need to lift and move educational materials and furniture as part of classroom setup and maintenance.
